Statement
Alone
in a quiet, intimate place, I perform before a judgeless, thoughtless camera.
The performance is an exploration of seduction, sexuality, vulnerability and
the position of a woman photographed. It is an exploration of my fantasies
of being photographed. Admittedly, it is an adolescent act of narcissism,
of self pre-occupation, self-deprecation and self-adoration.
I have been intoxicated by the seductive quality of fashion photography. I
want to make it, consume it and be it. My work is an attempt to experience,
react to and comment on the genre of fashion photography as both model and
photographer. It is not a notion of perfection that interests me. Rather,
I am drawn to imperfection, distortion and the unattainable.
My images are drawings assembled from several photographs. Like cubist artworks, the figures are created from a combination of angles and perspectives. Each image is made from three or four images combined digitally in order to exaggerate, deform and re-organize the figure into one non-existent, impossible and fantastic figure of the mind. My intention is to create something alluring but truly awkward, uncomfortable and unreal. I aim to seduce my audience into desiring the image, into desiring me, only to be confronted with the distorted reality, and falsehood, of my image.
